Telangana Approves ₹2,278.14-Crore Adilabad Joint User Airfield Project

Telangana Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced on Sunday that the State Government has accorded administrative sanction of ₹2,278.14 crore for the establishment of the Adilabad Joint User Airfield. The project, described as a game-changing initiative for the development of North Telangana, will require the acquisition of 2,009.23 acres of land. Of this, 1,609.23 acres will be allocated to the Indian Air Force, while the remaining 400 acres will be used for the Civil Aviation Enclave, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facilities, cargo terminal, hangars, and future expansion. The administrative sanction also covers expenditure for land acquisition and associated infrastructure works, including the diversion of existing roads, relocation of 765 kV high-tension power lines, diversion of streams, shifting of Mission Bhagiratha drinking water pipelines, and removal of electricity poles. The airfield, to be jointly developed by the Indian Air Force and the Airports Authority of India, is expected to significantly boost industrial growth, investments, cargo transportation, tourism, and defence infrastructure across North Telangana, creating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for local youth. The project's progress is attributed to the special initiative of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and continuous coordination with the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the Airports Authority of India. The Telangana Government will bear the cost of land acquisition and the expenses involved in removing all project-related obstacles. The district administration has been instructed to complete land acquisition and the relocation of roads, power lines, and other utilities by December 31, 2026.
